Need to burn off extra energy? Searching for your kid's 'thing'?
Back to school is synonymous with back to extracurriculars for many families. If you are new to the Tri-Cities or have children looking to try out fresh activities, dance is a great option. Here are three thriving studios within 10-15 minutes of one another that could fit the bill.
Here are four local studios:
1) Caulfield School of Dance: A rich history in Port Moody going back 30 years with studio founder Cori Caulfield. Nestled just off St. Johns, Caulfield prides itself on strong ballet foundations with strengths in lyrical, jazz & tap. Small but mighty, many Caulfield alumni have moved on to the professional scene.
2) Rise 21: A fusion of former Port Moody School of Dance & Encore Dance Academy, Rise stepped on the scene in 2021, hence the name. A mid-size school, Rise is holding strong in the dance community and can be found near Superstore.
3) Pulse Dance Centre: A little further into industrial PoCo, but a strong reputation has Pulse bursting at the seams with several levels and styles in all genres. Pulse has even grown a second location in Vancouver.
4) Tri-City Dance Centre: Right there in the name, TCDC is located just above Club Aviva. The studio has had the same owner for decades and boasts consistency and a touring convention team.
While all four of these studios have everything from recreation to elite competitive teams, perhaps you are just looking to dip your toe in. September is prime time for giving dance a try. If you or your littles are brand new to tutus or hip hop, perhaps book a meeting with a studio director to check the vibe and see which studio is the best fit.
Note: Adult dance is back! If you are looking to move and shake your OWN self, most local studios have either adult drop-in or 'sessionals' spanning six to eight weeks. Whether you are a retired competitor or looking to finally give in to your fantasy of being en pointe, you will find your studio LOCALLY.
