BACK TO SCHOOL 101: It's the fall, so speed limits are back in effect for school zones, folks. This means careening down Landsdowne has official consequences. Here are some areas in our neighbourhoods that are notoriously named for road runners. Make note of your speed. Amend your expected drive times to work. And most importantly, mind your manners.
The legal baseline is 30 km/h from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on regular school days, unless the posted sign specifies different/extended hours. Here are a few schools that have popped up on lists of speed concern this past year:
Port Moody:
Mountain Meadows Elementary - Noons Creek Drive
Scott Creek Middle - Landsdowne Drive
Aspenwood Elementary - Panorama Drive
Coquitlam:
Glen Elementary - Smith Ave
Mundy Road Elementary - Austin Ave
Charles Best Secondary - Como Lake Ave
Port Coquitlam:
Leigh Elementary - Soball St
École Kilmer Elementary - Westwood St
Kwayquitlum Middle - Flint St

Mountain Meadows Elementary in particular has had its share of issues in the past several years. Students have been featured on TV news reports holding posters, begging drivers to slow down. One family even sat for over several hours on separate days, taking stats and jotting down licence plate numbers. Port Moody Police are indeed a familiar fixture along the winding road. They are known for little hesitation in pulling folks over during morning commutes.
Upper Noons Creek Drive is a key north–south route connecting the area around the school and Eagle Ridge Hospital, and carries more than 3,000 vehicles each day. Port Moody City piloted a traffic calming measure along

Upper Noons Creek Drive between Maude Court and Juniper Place. The effort is also an attempt to increase use of public transport and cycling.
The project began in early 2026, and results are pending.
